carborane binds to HIV protease

"The metallacarboranes appeared to occupy the portion of the protease used to hold key proteins in place as part of the infective cycle of HIV, preventing the proteases from working."
They used X-Ray Crystallography to show the binding site.

I just learned about this site today and now found this reference to carboranes and AIDS.
I am one of the inventors of the carboranes ( published in about 1961 but first discovered in 1958).
I am glad that there may be some practical use for them.
